Navidad
One of the most honored Mexican holidays, and a Mexican national holiday, is the holiday of Mexican Navidad, or Christmas in English speaking countries. Steeped in rich Mexican holiday tradition, la navidad is a Hispanic holiday that commemorates the birth of baby Jesus in Christian tradition. The main navidad celebration in Mexico is called las posadas, which describes the procession reenacting Joseph and Mary's search for lodging in Bethlehem. At midnight, the birth of Christ is hailed with fireworks, bells and whistles. Churches are teeming with the most pious worshipers of this holiday of Mexican navidad where the famed "Misa de Gallo" or "Mass of the Rooster" echoes throughout the pews. Following Mass, families head home to enjoy Mexican food for the holidays--any Mexican holiday recipe of food and drink, such as tamales, rice, rellenos, atole and menudo, render navidad one of the most pleasant Mexican holidays. ¡Feliz Navidad!
